Next time you see a vending machine take a good long look at it. Its archaic mechanical buttons, its cryptic battleship-esque selection technique (B1.. C4..), its one-color led matrix display, its cold, stoic stance and vacant expression. Its fate the same as that of Windows; inevitable and long overdue. The new act in town sports a 50” completely interactive touchscreen display with killer animation that makes you want to buy a Coke even if you’re a diehard Pepsi fan, or like, allergic to caffeine or something.

In collaboration with Samsung for all the wild electronics and behind-the-screen mechanical wizardry, this vending machine debuted at the 2009 Summer Olympic games in China – drawing long lines of people dying to get their hands, or at least their fingertips, on it.

 

Working with the talented people at Sapient, we were able to create a vending experience like no other. Broadcast quality animation and high-level interactivity allowed users to select a bottle and be immersed into the world in which the artist of the bottle created. Each artist was teamed up with a musical act from around the world who sonically represented the mood and nature of the design. As the world comes to life in front of you, the people start to pile up behind you. But in this case, they can’t blame you for not being able to hurry up and make up your mind.

It’s not every day you can look into a mirror and see something other than just yourself. And it’s certainly not every day you can interact with the mirror just by the wave of your hand. Built for Infiniti’s auto show exhibits around the world, this installation is an engaging and informative exploration through infinti’s line up of desirable cars and high-tech features.
